About Ballina Art Society
Ballina Art Society is a not-for-profit organisation formed by local artists in 1972 to support fellow artists and provide opportunities to exhibit their work. For over 50 years we have held a major annual exhibition to showcase our members’ latest and best artworks to the public.
What started as a small group of people painting together has grown into a community of over 90 members. Most are from the Ballina Shire, but the group also attracts artists from across the Northern Rivers. Members meet to paint, learn and receive guidance from experienced tutors in a variety of mediums and styles.
What We Do
We provide regular art classes for adults at the Scout Hall on Canal Road, Ballina. Classes run on Thursdays from 9am to 2.30pm in four-week blocks, with a different tutor and subject each month. Our classes are suitable for beginners, emerging artists and experienced painters alike. BYO lunch.
Four different tutors provide guidance across the year, each bringing a fresh approach and varied perspective. Tutors are selected by members’ popular choice, covering a wide range of mediums, techniques and styles.
In addition to our classes, we hold at least one major exhibition each year and organise social activities and gallery visits throughout the year.
Our Mission
We support artists by providing a creative, encouraging and friendly learning environment.
Our objectives include motivating members to paint, encouraging regular attendance at classes, supporting and encouraging each other, providing opportunities and resources to increase knowledge about art and artists, improving skill levels, building self-confidence, developing an appreciation of all art, encouraging self-expression and social activity, and maintaining a high level of respect for the Society and the work of its members.
